There is nothing more frustrating than having to drive to a pharmacy that could be farther away from you home. This is what will happen to Walgreen's Pharmacy customers since the contract with Express Script's and Walgreens Pharmacy has expired. As it turns out, Walgreens and Express Scripts will no longer do business together. This is bad for customers who have become accustomed to having their prescription's filled through Walgreens Pharmacy and will have no choice but to go elsewhere to use there in-network pharmacy benefits, which is totally unnecessary. This change with Express Scripts will have patients changing pharmacies and the possibility of paying more for their prescriptions.
Express Scripts has Military customers as well and now their prescriptions will be affected as well. Military customers got their prescriptions filled by Tricare. While negotiations were going on with Express Scripts and Walgreens, Walgreens took an unprecedented step to offer Express Scripts an ironclad guarantee that Walgreens prices would match or beat average costs per adjusted prescription.
With all this change, Walgreens has given their customers a chance to save on their prescriptions through the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens. Right now, if customers sign up before January 31, 2012, individuals can pay $5, and this is a $15 savings, while families can pay $10 a year for all families members, up to the age of 22.
